Prizes and Paper Awards

Two major IAPR prizes, as well as paper awards in four different categories will be presented at ICPR 2012. Brief information on each of these prizes and awards is provided below. Authors interested in nominating their papers for the paper awards should follow the guidelines on the paper submission page.
King-Sun Fu Prize
This is an IAPR prize in honour of the memory of Professor King-Sun Fu, who was instrumental in the founding of IAPR, served as its first president, and is widely recognized for his extensive contributions to the field of pattern recognition.
This biennial prize is given to a living person in the recognition of an outstanding technical contribution to the field of pattern recognition. The prize recipient is selected by the Prize Committee, subject to approval by the IAPR Governing Board, upon nomination by a member of a national member society of IAPR and by endorsement of at least five other members.
The Prize consists of a suitably inscribed plaque and a cash amount of $3,000 (three thousand US dollars), the costs of which are borne by interest income from a special fund created for this purpose. The award will be presented to the winner during a plenary ICPR session in which the winner will also give an invited talk.

J.K. Aggarwal Prize
This is an IAPR prize in honour of Professor J.K. Aggarwal, who is widely recognized for his extensive contributions to the field of pattern recognition and for his participation in IAPR’s activities.
The recipient is a young scientist, under the age of 40 at the date of the deadline for nominations, who has brought a substantial contribution to a field that is relevant to the IAPR community and whose research work has had a major impact on the field. The prize recipient is selected by the J. K. Aggarwal Prize Committee, subject to approval by the IAPR Governing Board, upon nomination by a member of a national member society of IAPR and by endorsement of four members, representing at least two member societies different from that of the nominator and nominee.
The Prize consists of a suitably inscribed plaque and a cash amount of $3,000 (three thousand US dollars), the costs of which are borne by interest income from a special fund created for this purpose. Piero Zamperoni Best Student Paper Award
The primary purpose of this award is to acknowledge and encourage excellence in pattern recognition research by students, and to help assure the future livelihood of the field. The award also honours the memory of Dr. Piero Zamperoni, an outstanding educator in pattern recognition.
Eligibility for the award is restricted to papers authored or co-authored by a student. There must be no more than two authors, and if only one author of a co-authored paper is a student, then the other author must certify that the work presented in the paper is primarily the work of the student. The student author must have been a registered student at the time of paper submission.
The Award is offered by Elsevier (publisher of the IAPR affiliated journal Pattern Recognition Letters) and consists of a cash amount of $1,000 (one thousand US dollars), a 2-year free subscription to Pattern Recognition Letters, and a suitably inscribed certificate.

ICPR2012 Best Student Paper Awards
The awards are given to the best student paper in each of the 5 ICPR tracks to acknowledge and encourage excellence in research by students in all areas of Pattern Recognition, and to help assure the future livelihood and sustainability of the field.
Eligibility for the award is restricted to papers authored or co-authored by a student who must have been a registered student at the time of paper submission.
Each award consists of 30,000 JPY (thirty thousand Japanese Yens) and a suitably inscribed certificate.
Best Industry Related Paper Award
This award is administrated by the IAPR Industrial Liaison Committee and its primary purpose is to acknowledge and encourage excellence research with potential for viable commercial impact.
The award is derived from the general "Prizes and Awards" budget of IAPR and consists of a cash amount of $1,000 (one thousand US dollars) and a suitably inscribed certificate.
Best Scientific Paper Awards.
Five best scientific paper awards, one for each ICPR Track, will be given to papers selected by the Technical Program Committee of ICPR.
Each award is derived from the general "Prizes and Awards" budget of IAPR and consists of a cash amount of 30,000 JPY (thirty thousand Japanese Yens) and a suitably inscribed certificate.
